CAN I GET SOME CRUMBS FROM TROUBLE?Minimize

It is Labor Day and a many note worthy events have occurred since my last blog. However, one headline could not escape my attention, “Real Estate billionaire Leona Helmsley left $12 million in her will for her dog Trouble.”

The scriptures record the account of the Syrophenician woman in her desire to have her daughter healed, respond to a statement by Jesus Christ by saying, “…yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their master’s table.” (St. Matt 15:27, St. Mark 7:28) But since Trouble, a white Maltese, received $12 million, perhaps I can get some crumbs from her table. It was reported that Trouble was hand fed with only gourmet food and will be entombed along side the Helmsleys in their $1.4 mausoleum when she dies.

When I heard the news, I had to consider how many human lives could have been positively impacted with $12 million. Having traveled to many impoverished areas around the world, (from India to Brazil… from South Africa to Jamaica… from New York to Los Angeles) my heart ached thinking that a dog had just received all that money.

Our family has been blessed by our dog, Mickie. A full blooded Bichon Frise, she is now 14 years old and has been with our girls as they matriculated throughout their entire school years from kindergarten thru the 12th grade. Now that our girls are gone off to college, Mickie is still here (with a few ailments and ‘arthur” in her bones), and is yet still very much a part of the family. Whenever I come home, I can count on Mickie greeting me at the door with her tail wagging. In fact she is right here next to me on my deck as I write this blog. Certainly, man’s best friend. But make no mistake – I’ve not forgotten Mickie is a dog. And while she will be missed whenever that day comes, I cannot afford to lose perspective of who Mickie is and who I am!

Now in all fairness to Mrs. Helmsley, it is reported that she is worth somewhere between $2.4 & $4 billion, and her will calls for the cash from sales of the Helmsley’s residences and belongings to be sold and that the money be given to the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust. I did a quick calculation and for the sake of this exercise, let us say she is worth $3.25 billion. When you consider the $12 million left to Trouble, it equates to less than half of 1% of her worth. Or if you had a family income of $75,000, it would equal you spending $275 on your pet! Oops! I think we’ve spent more on Mickie in a year considering her food, grooming, visits to the vet, etc.

Hey Trouble, when you consider the overall picture, Mickie is getting more from us than what Mrs. Helmsley left you. Never mind – you can eat the crumbs from my table! Have a blessed day everyone.

This is so though-provoking. Someone mentioned this story to me the other day, and I couldn't believe it. But after hearing the mathematical breakdown, and comparing it to what you have spent on Mickie, or what many dog owners spend on their dogs, I guess it is the equivalent. Kind of like the widows mite. 2 cents from her was probably like $200 from some of the other men who were there that day.

At first I was certainly disgusted to the fact that a dog would received 12 million and thought about the stuggles we have and have had, hoping and wishing that someone would throw us such crumbs. I also thought of the two dogs we had and they received the best, a German Shepherd (Jade) who was certainly called my son, all of us before I had my own flesh and blood and a great watch dog he was, and then came a Great Dane,(Prince) who loved the children very much and now he has gone on to whereever, but not one time did I ever consider saving money or setting him up for inheritance with all of their great qualities as our pet. We gave them the best while they were here, but I think of the children who are not that fortunate to receive the crumbs. I guess it takes all kinds to make a world. Oh for the crumbs!!!!!!!!!!

I appreciate the break-down, we don't often think of calcuating what we feel is the best of us, but I see it all comes out in the wash afterall. I guess it takes all kinds to make a world. Oh for the crumbs!!!!!!!!!!

Bishop Brady really gave us some "food for thought" as he shared the financial breakdown of the 12 million for the beloved Trouble. Lately, I have been asking God in prayer to give the rich of this land compassion toward those who are less fortunate than themselves. It keeps coming into my spirit to pray this prayer that the rich would be tenderhearted toward the orphans, seniors and the homeless. After reading this blog today, I would say that I should keep this prayer in my spirit -- 12 million dollars, as has been stated, could be used to feed a lot of hungry people. Truly, I can agree with today's title by saying that I wish I could get some crumbs from Trouble (smile).

Glenn, I'm glad Trouble won't last always. I pray that Trouble will be as generous in his will as his owner was in hers. It is at that time that we will see the true gift of Trouble.

The sign of things to come.
Isn't it significant to see how a dog can become an heir. "Yes, Lord," she said, "but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table.("Matthew 15:27) During that time the gentiles were considered the dogs... but because of Jesus, we are now the heirs, joint heirs to the promise. In this case, the crumbs are just a hint of the kind wealth that will be transferred to the kingdom of God for the true heirs, co-heirs with Christ.
We are in the midst of the greatest wealth transfer that anyone has ever seen. Over the next generation (40-55 years) more than 41 Trillion dollars will be transferred to heirs due to the age and wealth of the baby boomers. Even as it is in the natural, there is wealth that has been stored up for the righteous and wealth is being transferred to the heirs of the promise. We are heirs to the promise, joint heirs with Christ.

Look for it, God is downloading million dollar ideas, inventions, books, businesses etc to the righteous, look around, there is a wealth transfer in progress to the true heirs that once were called dogs and qualified for only crumbs. Crumbs are good, whatever is in the crumb is in the loaf. Think about it, if the dog gets the $ 12 million crumbs and whatever is in the crumbs is in the loaf, how big is the loaf? This is just a hint of the kind of wealth that the heirs in the kingdom will inherit in this coming season for the Glory of God. This will be one of the greatest wealth transfers that we have ever seen.

I pray that we all are positioned to receive all that God has for us in this season. The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
Thanks to Elder Brady for bringing that to our attention.

It's amazing to hear this kind of news, a dog receiving $12million, wow! Is the dog aware of this inheritance? How does the dog spend and enjoy the money? I wouldn't mind some crumbs passing my way :-)! I'm not really an animal lover to be honest, so the dog should get just enough to survive on. I'd look after the dog if i could use some of the $12million :-). God bless Petros (UK)

Net worth, pet worth and people worth. How do we balance the three? Leona Helmsley's net worth was in the billions. Monetarily, Trouble's net worth is 12 million. Should we limit the worth of a pet to the amount of money it "inherits" from its master? Or, should we also consider the emotional and psychological value it added to the life and well being of the wealthy owner? Perhaps Trouble wasn'st all that troublesome afterall. Perhaps he was a true companion to Helmsley. Having money certainly creates "friends" and "frenemies". Riches do not guarantee wealth. Maybe, Trouble took her mind of all the troubles that came with much money. 2 million is certainly a whole lot for those of us who do not have it but as Elder pointed out, it is a drop in the bucket of the billions of Leona Helmsley yet we proportionately spend way more on our own pets. The true issue and the balancing act will be seen in how she treated the humans around her in life and in death (her will)? Is the value of people reflected in the amount she allots? What does she do with the rest of the money? Does she will it to truly charitable or noble causes?

I really need that kind of trouble; is he up for adoption? The money is small in percentage of her net worth. But did you read that she didn't give anything to some of her grand children. And did the faithful staff that waited on her hand and foot get anything for their services down thru the years. The thing is that wealth is a tool, its' not just for personal lust or enjoyment. Hopefully monies were set aside in a philantropic way to help improve the futures of some, thru educatiional trust, ect. America is a trip while we try to save the world, from whatever we think is bad our society seems to be going down the proverbial drain. Childern killing children, parents neglecting responsibility, family unit under attack by the homosexual agenda. "Lord" America need you ....... By the way SHAQ spends $900,000 a month.... that 10.8 mil/ a year .. How many cars , pimpedout houses, suits, rims, parties, ect can we have. The Black wealthy spend too much time on lustful things trying to live large.
I'm Out......

I agree Daryl. When coming from a background of having "nothing" and receive "something," there is a tendency to over-compensate for the "nothing" time. If it is a person's money, of course they can do what ever they want -- but there are consequences with every decision & choice (ask Mike Vick). We need more education on how to accumulate wealth (for our children and our children's children) than rather what we can get for overselves.
