GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER?
By A. Glenn Brady on8/21/2007

A recent Associated Press article appeared on CNN.com entitled, “Could Mr. Right Be White? – More Black Women Consider Dating Out.” It deals with the fact that Black women around the country are reconsidering interracial relationships. Of course I had to reflect back on the 1967 Academy Award-winning classic entitled, “Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner?” In that film a young White American woman has a whirlwind romance with an African-American (played by Sidney Poitier) and they plan to marry. The plot is centered around the young woman’s return to her home in San Francisco, California

WHEN TO STEP DOWN?
By A. Glenn Brady on8/2/2007

There is something about wisdom & maturity that allows you to see the need to remove yourself from a position when you are no longer relative or productive in the office you serve. However, sometimes age does not always bring that wisdom & maturity. I have seen too many cases when a church, council, organization or even a Sunday school class becomes stagnant and dies because leadership held on to a position too long.

I guess this subject became poignant to me upon my return from the ...

Libby's Sentence Commuted, Not Fair Or Is It?
By A. Glenn Brady on7/4/2007

How ironic, as I’m sitting on my deck this fourth of July listening to the illegal firecrackers going off in the neighborhood, that the headlines for this Independence Day is the executive commuting of I. Lewis Libby’s sentence by the President of the United States for the crime he was convicted on June 22, 2007. The former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney was found guilty by a jury of his peers on four counts of perjury, lying to the FBI and obstructing an investigation into the leak of a CIA operative’s identity. For this he was sentenced to 30 months of imprisonment and a fine of $250,000. The right-wing conservatives, Bush’s last bastion of support, railed on the President to pardon Libby; but instead the President commuted his 30 month imprisonment.

Teen Sex vs. 10-years In Prison
By A. Glenn Brady on6/21/2007

Between November of 1995 and April of 1996, the most powerful and admired man in the United States, former President Bill Clinton, admitted to having oral sex in the Oval Office and adjoining rooms in the West Wing with Monica Lewinsky while she worked at the White House. While under oath on January 26, 1998, former President Clinton denied having “a sexual affair” or “a sexual relationship” with Ms. Lewinsky. His famous quote during a nationally televised White House new conference, “I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky,” eventually became the basis for Independent Counsel Ken Starr’s attempt to have President Clinton indicted for perjury and a fail ...

So You're Sick -- What Hospital Will You Go To? Your Life Depends Upon Your Choice!!
By A. Glenn Brady on6/13/2007

A good friend of mine recently was having some physical challenges and attributed it to a car accident. The physician diagnosed the ailment and they were having it treated at their local, regional hospital. After several months the pain and discomfort was not going away. Finally, they decided to go to a medical center in another city. There they immediately identified the problem and initiated the correct treatment. Unfortunately, this is not an uncommon occurrence. There is a difference in the medical care that is provided by different hospitals, as well as the difference in the care based on other factors such as race.

WHAT SHOULD BE DONE? DOESN'T ANYONE CARE?
By A. Glenn Brady on6/6/2007

I have always taken an interest in "Man's Inhumanity To Man" -- the things a person can actually do to another. The roots of such deeds can be traced to the very beginning of man's existence. The very first murder is recorded in the Bible in the book of Genesis when Cain, the son of Adam, killed his brother Abel. (Genesis 4:1-8)

In this inaugural blog, I want to highlight the seemingly apathetic position taken when it comes to "black-on-black" crime, especially from the African-American community. This pass April, 33 students were killed at Virgina Tech in what is being called the worst U.S. shooting in history. This tragic and senseless act received world-wide condemnation. Condolences and calls for actions came from all walks of life. For days, the headlines reported the act and aftermath of this tragedy.
